Backtrax Sports Utility Roof Tents is a venture ten years in the making for founder James Cockburn.
An avid modern day outdoor adventurer, James Cockburn hails from a farm in rural Zimbabwe. He went on to become a qualified and successful management accountant in London working with some of the worlds leading blue-chip companies including Ford, Coca Cola, McCann Erickson and Silicon Media.
In 2004, James and his wife gave up “city life” and purchased an expedition-prepared Landrover Defender with a fiberglass rooftop tent. They spent the next two and a half years driving from the top of South America down through the Amazon and Patagonia to Tierra del Fuego and all over the US and Canada to the top of Alaska. James has also had expedition articles published in Landrover Monthly and travel stories in Falconry International.
Since 2007, James has owned and operated South East Queensland Campers and Gear a renowned retail showroom for some of Australia’s leading high end off road caravan, camper, slide-on and roof tent brands. He also started West Coast Campers & Gear in Perth as the first dedicated high-end offroad accommodation retail store in WA.
Launching Backtrax is the culmination of years of proven business, travel and expedition experience—a true labour of love. Backtrax Sports Utility RoofTents are designed and made in Australia for Australian conditions and are the first, hard shell roof tents to open remotely and include interior lighting, speakers and tablet arm.
